After many attempts to get our beloved dog back on track, we have finally come to terms with reality. Chewie requires a home and family that can better meet his needs. Chewie is dog-reactive with a history of one attack that resulted in vet bills. He is approximately 100 lbs and will be 4 on March 6th, 2025. His sire was a German Shephard and he was the runt of a litter of 11 puppies, birthed by a Golden Retreiver/Maremma Sheepdog mix. He was kept with his litter until 10 weeks of age. Inside the home, Chewie has been amazing and gentle with my babies. He has shown no sign of over-interest or annoyance with my toddler, though I have always supervised close enough to ensure my toddler is respecting his dog. The reason for having to rehome Chewie is that he attacked the wrong dog for the last time in our neighborhood. We have put a lot of time and money into his training - and have seen successes and great improvements. But reactive dogs have setbacks, and we have not been able to recover our hard work now that we have added two babies, building a house and a very strict neighborhood to our lives. This is a devastating decision that I have been fighting for a long time, but I now believe that we are only holding Chewie back from living the life he deserves. Like I said, he is great with little kids. He is great with people in general. Other animals are not an issue, he lives with a cat and passes horses often on our walks. I am hoping to find Chewie the right home as soon as possible. He requires a diligent and experienced owner, hopefully with some property.
