$17 · Organic Russian hardneck garlic

Organic Russian hardneck garlic image 1

Organic Russian Hardneck Garlic. Juicy and tasty but not overpowering. Beautiful and big. The average is around 3.25 inches in diameter, 6 - 8 cloves per bulb. Eat for your culinary enjoyment or buy some to plant for next year. From now till February is time to plant. We have the perfect growing climate here on the island for garlic. Harvest is in July. I managed to plant a fall crop after my garlic harvest this year. Every year i fill my garden with horse manure. Horse is fed organic hay only. I cover them with maple leaves for mulch and add woodstove ashes, since i have it, which are rich in minerals. Originally started from the Gabriola Garlic Guy and have been growing them for at least 10 years now. This variety is tasty but not overpowering. I have seen them comporable at the farmers market for a similar price, about $4 a bulb and thrifty's is selling them for $7 a bulb (but they are bigger there). $28 per lb at Buckerfields last year so i think i am pricing them fairly at $17 per lb. There are lots of medicinal qualities you may be interested in. You may know this already. Here is a link to an article of benefits https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/11-proven-health-benefits-of-garlic#section3 It lowers blood pressure, reduces cholesterol, is low in calories, rich in minerals and vitamins, it boosts your immunity system, contains antioxidants that reduce risk of alzheimers, it increases bone health in rodents (so maybe in humans as well - who knows), and it helps protect organs from some heavy metals. Ancient cultures used it to get more work out of their labourers. Ancient greek Athletes took it to prepare for the Olympics. It is also a natural antibiotic. It does not prevent or cure colds or flues (don't believe people when they tell you that things cure colds) , but it is good medicine for them nonetheless. Pretty lofty claims. Send an email or text me, and let me know when you want to come by to pick up. My farm is in Glenora, 10 minute drive from downtown Duncan.
