Here is your chance to join a circle of family, friends, and paid support workers who share in supporting a fantastic Deaf adult who lives in Duncan to live a good life at home and in the community. This is the job for you if you appreciate Deaf Culture and have experience communicating with Deaf people. This is the job for you if you have a reliable vehicle, a safe driving record and enjoy supporting people to carry out activities of daily living such as doing errands, going to appointments, shopping, preparing meals and keeping a home organized and clean. No lifting or personal care is involved. Vaccination against covid is required. Start Date and Hours: Our team shares in supporting this individual 8 hours per day 7 days per week. We hope you will join the team as soon as possible. The hours currently available are 1:30 to 5:30 Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays plus one or two Saturdays/Sunday afternoons per month. Payment: The rate of pay is $17 to $20 per hour depending on your qualifications. You are also reimbursed for the km you drive while the client is in your vehicle. If you live more than 15 minutes from Duncan, you are paid for part of your travel time to and from work. Additional qualities and skills of the successful candidate: You know how to support others in a low-key, non-directive approach based on respecting their routines, compassionate listening and responding with tactful, relaxed, practical solution-focused problem solving skills. You find this approach to support work to be easy and enjoyable because you have: • a friendly, calm, supportive presence • a compassionate sense of humour • common sense • comfort with gestural/visual communication You may also have some of these assets: • some fluency in American Sign Language and openness to becoming more fluent • trained and experienced in home, community and/or school support work. • familiar with inclusive, community-based, trauma-informed approaches to support work • experienced supporting people from diverse backgrounds
